I’m a sex-positive activist and sex educator. I make my living as a nanny.
I take care of two incredible kids: a 2-year old girl, who I’ll call Claire, and a 5-year-old boy, who I’ll call Daniel. Both kids are adopted. Daniel is half Puerto Rican, and Claire is half black. I’m white, like their parents.
People say some incredible things to and about the kids. I think a lot about what it all means – what messages I get, and especially what messages they get.
I don’t want to be one of those white people who gets mad that Skip Gates gets arrested on his own porch and thinks that means I’m not racist. I want to grapple with my whiteness. I want to understand what makes it tick.
These kids aren’t mine, but I love them. I make small movies and write about what I see. I put it all here. When I figure out what else I can do, I’ll do it.
